Starting a Business + Announcement
Like many people during quarantine, I’ve thought a lot about what the pandemic means in terms of both economic loss and opportunity—loss in the sense that the economic landscape that we knew is probably not going to come back entirely. Opportunity, in the sense that many crises bring with them chances to innovate, and chances to devote time an energy into things you otherwise might not.
With that, I’m excited to announce the email launch of Big Apple Box, a subscription box focused on highlighting small businesses and community builders with a footprint in the New York City area. The idea is that once every season, subscribers will get an assortment of quality products—think soaps, spices, tea and coffee, non-perishable foods—delivered straight to your door. It’s a way to get quality products you otherwise might not have heard of, and support small businesses along the way.
Moreover, by supporting and helping expand the footprint of small business, you are effectively supporting the local community in which it has grown; helping ensure neighborhoods have the physical resources that make them healthy and able to thrive, children have visible business-owner role models, and bring money that might otherwise go to a select few massive online retailers back to local community-builders.
If you’d like to learn more, sign up for our email list. You’ll be the first to hear about our launch, be eligible for Founding Member discounts, and by simply signing up, you’ll be automatically be entered to win our first box, FREE. Again, if you subscribe to our email list, you can win a bunch of free stuff, no strings attached. Like N’Sync in 2000.
I’m looking forward to seeing how Big Apple Box grows and evolves, and invite you to be a part of that ripening process. :)
SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT:
As you may have noticed, the last two newsletters were tour-guidey observations of New York City. This is part of a strategic move by me to utilize my PrettyGoodToursNYC email list—I’m not doing walking tours right now, so instead, starting to create an online ecosystem that will include an NYC-themed newsletter, maybe a podcast, virtual tours, a way to naturally promote an incorporate Big Apple Box, etc.
So, I am therefore retiring this domain, and will be moving all future newsletters to my weekly PrettyGoodToursNYC email, which you will get on Thursday. If you no longer want emails from me, you can unsubscribe to that newsletter at any time. But I think you’ll like them. :)
